Coming from North London, Nikwax is the leading company for properly caring for your gear and outerwear since the company started in 1977 by Nick Brown. Nick was exposed to enjoying the great outdoors at a young age, and his time outdoors is exactly what inspired the creation of Nikwax. Nick found himself very often facing the problem of wet boots due to poor waterproofing. Realizing this problem, Nick set out to create his own waterproofing "wax" under the appropriately named brand "Nikwax." Nick began to package his wax in tins and quickly introduced the product to Europe, where the brand's popularity really began to grow. With Nikwax being so popular, Nick branched out from boot waterproofing to include a range of other products for clothing. In 1983, Nick realized that his product's aerosol was harming the environment and came up with the idea of their "Water-Based Range" of products that were the first water-based products for restoring waterproofing. Since that change, Nikwax has continued to develop products to waterproof anything in your closet and was everything from baselayers to down jackets.
