While Kelty is currently one of the the leading brands for outdoor and camping gear, they began with a pretty small and humble past. Kelty officially started in the year 1952, but for years prior to that, Dick Kelty and his wife, Nena, were stitching packs out of their garage and selling them for twenty-four dollars each. By the year 1956, Dick was able to quit his job and focus on the Kelty brand full-time. With a serious devotion to his brand, Dick continued adding products to their line almost every year--some of his pack were exclusively used during the first American ascent of the West Ridge of Mt. Everest in 1963.
